Winter is a wonderful time to visit Door County. The falling snow creates a perfect backdrop to any winter activity. What could be better than watching the snow fall on Lake Michigan while sipping hot chocolate from your suite at Glidden Lodge?
I had the pleasure of experiencing a snow covered Glidden Lodge suite this past weekend with a companion from Scotland. We enjoyed the convenient access to local Parks as well as relaxing in our suite.
We really enjoyed our visit to nearby Cave Point and Whitefish Dunes State Park. Cave Point and Whitefish Dunes State Park provide the perfect terrain for enjoying fresh fallen snow. At Cave Point we were impressed by the beautiful view. They have an easy trail path that curves around the bluffs – part of the Niagara Escarpment. Whitefish Dunes State Park also offers trails that follow through the park and lead to the beach. We had a great view of Glidden Lodge from the beachfront.
We were ready for a break from the outdoors and decided to hop into the pool area which features windows that face out to Lake Michigan. That way, we could enjoy the gorgeous view of the outdoors from the comfort of the indoors. After the pool we warmed up in front of the fire and enjoyed some hot chocolate while we watched the snowfall. The bedroom and spacious living room offer great views to the outside. There was no need to worry about missing the falling snow.
Our visit wasn’t complete without a visit to Donny’s Glidden Lodge! My Scottish partner enjoyed the 12 oz Filet Mignon which he said was one of the best he’d ever had. I enjoyed Pan-Fried Shrimp which I happily shared with my dining partner. We somehow had room for dessert so we took on the impressive offering: Death By Chocolate Cake. It was one of the best dining experiences we’d ever had. If you don’t have room for dinner be sure to drop by for a cocktail – the bar is gorgeous!
My Scottish companion was thoroughly impressed with his stay at Glidden Lodge and the beautiful parks that are just a short drive away. It will be something he’ll be thinking about for years to come.
