August is here and that means more programming from Whitefish Dunes State Park’s Carolyn Rock. The park is just a 3.5 mile hike down the beach from Glidden Lodge. Sound enticing? We think so too!
Saturday August 16
Candlelight Walk.
Join the Friends of Whitefish Dunes for a night of outdoor fun. Enjoy a self-guided hike along the shoreline and through the forested dunes. Join Door Peninsula Astronomical Society members to view planets, stars and moons in the night’s sky on the beach. Bake and merchandise sale in the nature center, free popcorn at the shelter building. Book signing by Kate Kapolnek, author of the new children’s book, ABC’s of Door County. Volunteers are appreciated, those interested contact the park.

Friday August 22
Forgotten Fossils.
Come explore the rocky shoreline for signs of life from long ago. Discover what life was like, the environment it lived in and the cool critters. Meet at the amphitheater for this family friendly program.
10:00 a.m.
Skins, Skulls and Scat.
Drop by the amphitheater for Family Fun and try your hand at matching common Wisconsin animal skins, skulls and scat.

Saturday August 23
Mushroom Foray.
Discover the variety of mushrooms that grow within the park. Join Charlotte Lukes to explore the major mushrooms groups. Learn how to field identify of mushrooms to their family groups. This program is for the serious and beginning mushroom enthusiast. Beginning in the nature center auditorium, follow Charlotte on a hike of discovery. Dress for the weather for this two hour program.
9:00-11:00 a.m.
Fantastic Fish.
Drop by the amphitheater for some fishy fun. Try ice fishing in summer, match your catch and get the lead out. Fun for all ages.

Saturday August 30
Dune Discovery.
Explore how dunes are formed and create a dune yourself. Meet at the amphitheater for this relaxing sandy hike.
