Door County Public Health Department in accordance to recent CDC review is updating its methods to monitor the level of COVID-19 within our community.
The focus of our prevention efforts is on protecting people at high risk for severe illness from becoming infected and requiring hospitalization.
In the past the number of positive cases was used to reflect the severity of disease. With the most recent change, weekly monitoring of hospitalizations and hospital capacity will be used to determine whether the level of COVID-19 and severe disease are either low, medium, or high in the community.
A community’s COVID-19 level is determined by a combination of three pieces of information: new hospitalizations for COVID-19, current hospital beds occupied by COVID 19 patients or hospital capacity, and new COVID-19 cases.
